Doggy life and processed foods

If you would have told me ten years ago that I would be cooking up meat for my dog I would have laughed so hard. Not a single chance. Well things changed. In reality lots of things changed but those are stories for other days.

***Before I begin my dog food story I will say that I have been made aware that raw food might be even better for my pup. However, at this point in my life I am keeping him on his current diet.***

Four years ago or so my otherwise happy and healthy Mini Australian Shepard started getting sick. It escalated to where he had, what I call, “faucet diarrhea” for a year and a half. Poor guy. It was so painful to witness. He developed scabies and was skinny and itching all over. I was also a stressed out mama which didn’t help soothe him one bit. Through the course of many vet visits to two different vets (to get a second opinion) it was decided that he had a liver disease. It was incurable and he would someday die of not being able to absorb nutrients. The poor pup was put through a string of antibiotics, steroids, and special food. The special food was more processed than even his previous dog pellets (which I thought I had carefully chosen and paid a lot of money for). Nothing helped. He became more and more miserable. My dog was so sick I literally had my oldest “say goodbye” when he went off to college in the Fall.

At this point I was at my wits end and asked the vet if there was a way to perhaps see what he could tolerate with real people food. The answer made me livid. “It’s too much work”. Not even a pamphlet guiding me or a reference to study up somewhere. That is when I went to the internet. Honestly it only took part of an evening to find companies out there providing real food for doggos. I decided on a dehydrated freeze-dried mix that I add protein and oil to. It has been nothing short of miraculous. Shop Dr. Harvey’s

I am elated to report that my twelve year old dog is living his best life these days 🎾♡.

This story has been one of the many humbling experiences I have been led through in the past few years that convinced me to pursue my business of helping others. I am obsessed with sharing the healing benefits of real food. Consuming real food can make a miraculous difference in our lives as well as in the lives of our pets.
